Small busstop family run eatery away from the ocean in a small town. Surprise... the best food we had on the Oregon coast. Atmosphere 70 Not much to talk about Service 90 They cared Food 95 Maybe we were hungray - but it was good Value 90 Home cooking and service - its hard to beat Certainly not a tourist place, but if you need a reprieve from the overpriced bad eateries on the coast, this is the place.

I think you'd be surprised by this place...in a good way. We didn't get a burger, but they looked HUGE. I think everyone in our group of 4 enjoyed their dish (ranging from the chef salad, fish and chips, sandwiches). Casual, small, decent.

Went to dinner for family gathering. Fish was dried out, over cooked, hard and tasteless. One member of our party asked for lemon and the waitress brought out ONE lemon slice...held in her hand. Coconut prawns were over cooled, dried out and there was NO coconut in the batter. One of the waitresses forgot the cheese bread and brought it out when we were almost done eating.

Karaoke on Friday nights! The first time we went here, there were the three people in our group and two other locals in the whole place. The second time we went here, there were four people in our group and two other locals in the whole place. Last Friday night we went here and it was damn near standing room only. Parking spots were hard to find, you had to yell to hear yourself once inside, etc., etc. And they had karaoke (as I have mentioned). This is a big deal to Ms. K. as karaoke is something that she very much enjoys. So now we know...

I've been eating clam chowder and fish & chips along the Oregon coast all week, and upon reflection this restaurant had the best food of all the places I tried. It's a block away from the main highway in a tiny town, so you need to pay attention or you'll miss it. When you walk inside, it doesn't look very promising. (The night we were there, the parking lot was pretty crowded but it turned out most people were in the adjoining bar, which seems to be the local's hangout). Also, the service was kind of sketchy (there was only one waitress and she seemed very new, so the service was friendly but slow and inconsistent -- I imagine it will be better next time). However, the food was very good. The chowder actually tasted like clams (which seems to be a rarity on the OR coast) and was definitely homemade. The huge chunks of potatoes were an odd touch, but they didn't detract from the flavorful soup and could easily be cut down with a spoon (we adjusted quickly and after a few spoonfuls it wasn't a problem). The halibut & chips were reasonably priced and very tasty. They had a light, crunchy batter (corn meal based?) that stayed crisp, and fries that weren't greasy and tasted like potatoes (rather than the battered, seasoned fries that seem all too common around here). The clam strips were meatier than most, and well fried, and came with a very nice cocktail sauce. (Someone at the next table told the waitress the cocktail sauce was the best he ever had; I wouldn't go that far, but it was very good to be sure). I didn't think this place was anything special at the time, but after eating chowder and fish and chips at several other restaurants on the OR coast, I would definitely give this place the thumbs up.
